Rally 4 Culture at Space 4 Art

  • Space 4 Art Inc. 340 16th Street San Diego, CA, 92101 United States (map)

During this FREE culminating event of our year-long designation as a World Design Capital legacy project, we will unite civic leaders, arts leaders, arts supporters, and artists of all disciplines to Rally 4 Culture in support of San Diego’s creative community and economy.

We will share important information and updates about AB 812— California’s affordable artist housing bill, including remarks from local leaders in support of it. With the City’s recently unveiled draft of its first-ever Cultural Plan, whose number one goal is to increase affordable art spaces, there is no time like the present for San Diego’s arts and culture community to join together and advocate for the implementation of AB 812.

Guest speakers include:

  • Tyler Hewes, Vice-Chair, Commission for Arts and Culture

  • Michael Angelo Camacho, Director of Government & Field Engagement, San Diego ART Matters

*Schedule of Activities:

  • 3-7 PM: There will be ongoing opportunities to join a drum circle led by Felix Diaz and Drummers Without Borders, or to create some DIY art with Andrew Alcasid. Bring a hat, T-shirt, tote, or similar item to upcycle! Additionally, attendees can “Find Your District” and email your reps in support of AB 812, and engage in conversations with a variety of local civic and arts leaders. The first 100 guests who email their reps will receive a small gift!

  • 4-5 PM - Enjoy a live theatrical performance by Herbert Siguenza, co-founder of the political comedy troupe Culture Clash. Then learn about AB 812 from guest speakers.

  • 6-7 PM - Enjoy live improvisational guitar music by Alaric López and experimental tuba music by Jonathan Piper.

As always, snacks and drinks will be available for purchase at our concession stand. Barra Cruda Cevicheria and Kubo Coffee will also be selling onsite during our event.

*Please check back here for the most current schedule of activities as the event date nears.
