Closing Reception for Art Show
Please join us on April 15, 5:00-8:00 PM, for the closing reception of The Possibility of Something Happening! Exhibiting artists will be on hand to discuss their work, and we will celebrate the show with music by Space 4 Art resident artist Nick Lesley and another “surprise” performance you won’t want to miss, either.
We will also be joined by International Architect and Space 4 Art Founder Bob Leathers, City of San Diego Arts and Culture Commissioner Tracy Dezenzo, arts advocate Christine Martinez of Arts+Culture:San Diego, and other local leaders for a casual conversation about Penny for the Arts, a plan that would allocate 9.52% of the city’s “tourist” taxes to Arts and Culture funding.
Bob will share his experience channeling the power of the penny to fund community projects all over the world, while other arts advocates will discuss the local Penny for the Arts plan, which has never been implemented despite having won San Diego City Council approval more than a decade ago.

Fun fact: Though pennies have the lowest value of any U.S. currency, they could, collectively, amount to an abundance of financial support for our creative economy. Advocating for the penny goes beyond advocating for funds; it celebrates the power of collective action, the creation of art, the curiosity of artists, and the dynamism of a city— values that lie at the heart of Space 4 Art.
In some sense, Penny for the Arts is a metaphor for the collective power of people to bring about great change by pooling resources in an accessible, inclusive way. As creators and participants of art, everything counts.
Swing by, raise a glass, and show your support on April 15. Speciality cocktails— including a show-specific special drink —will be curated by Art Produce partner-business Botanica Art & Cocktails, with a portion of the proceeds to benefit Art Produce.
