After-School Art Club - Art People

At this time last year, Space 4 Art was connecting with school and community partners, both new and old, in an effort to bring artists and students back together in person. This fall, we are excited to see those efforts continue to bear fruit as we begin a new year of STEAM education programming!

S4A’s Sean Francis Conway has kicked things off with a visual arts residency at King Chavez Neighborhood of Schools. Sean is facilitating an after-school club, “Art People” for 4th and 5th graders, where the students will be learning new skills, being creative and getting ready to climb the Art Mountain! Lessons include turning common materials into wearable ART, learning how to draw without drawing, and making music instruments to start a marching band.

The first couple lessons have been focused on students and teacher getting to know each other via torn paper portraits and radial name designs. Here’s a quick and swift peek into their classroom!

We’re particularly excited to have Sean leading this program as a sort of continuation of the work he was doing at King-Chavez before the COVID-19 pandemic shutdown, “Inner World of Imagination”, and are happy that he is able to reconnect with the students!

This “Art People” series is supported by San Diego City Council CPPS program funding. We are grateful for this partnership and support.
